Meet the Chef

Chef Sally Yu

Chef Sally Yu

Executive Chef Sally Yu leads an eclectic and fast-paced career in the hospitality restaurant industry. Chef’s Sally’s passion for food stems from her father, renowned Chef Ho Fat Yu. As a native San Diegan, Chef Sally Yu has come to Jasper’s excited to embellish her skills in the ever-evolving San Francisco food scene.

At the young age of 21, Sally opened a restaurant of her own. Chef Sally then followed other opportunities including: a private chef position for a prominent family, catering high-end events, and working in prominent restaurants around the country. A life-changing event led to a renewed love of baking and pastries for Sally — her story was discovered by the Director of the TV show, “Amazing Race,” Evan Weinstein, who at the time was developing a feel-good series of food competitions. The name of the pilot was called The Big Time. Chef Sally proudly placed second. Following this, she traveled and toured with the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil’s Totem as Head Chef. Chef Sally’s globally inspired creative style ranges from savory to sweet. She attributes this to her world travels with Cirque du Soleil. Now that Sally is back on U.S. soil, she will play an integral part of our restaurant as Executive Chef.

When Chef Sally is not working, you’ll find her enjoying her spare time searching for vintage cookbooks, enjoying wine and music, combing through local farmer’s markets, and cooking and eating with her family and friends.

“I feel as chefs, we have the responsibility to not only help feed, but to also provide education. One of the reasons I love food so much is because of the impact it has made to many of us at different stages of our lives. Our memories and cultures are rooted and tied to food. Food is defined as universal love in my eyes. I am lucky to be able to create love, as I see it, for others to experience and enjoy.”

The Story of Jasper’s Corner Tap and Kitchen,

a San Francisco Union Square American Restaurant

The Legend of Jasper O’Farrell

jaspers_o_farrellJasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen is home and namesake to Jasper O’Farrell, the man who named and built such streets of San Francisco as Market, Lombard, Pine and O’Farrell. For all intents, he largely constructed the city as we currently know it today.

Jasper was an Irish immigrant with a grand view of what this City by the Bay could be. A social man, he wanted to create a wondrous promenade that would bring the city together around trade, commerce, meals, and most importantly, drink! It is in the spirit of this remarkable innovator that we named Jasper’s, with the inspiration of creating something worth bringing the streets of San Francisco together over once again. Join us this St. Patrick’s Day in raising a glass to this amazing city and one of the brave Irish pioneers who helped sculpt it!
